Kyle Kindred: Music
Seductus Spiritus
(Kimberly Tucker, flute/piccolo)
2006
Forbidden Flute was commissioned by Kimberly Tucker of Rockwall, Texas for premiere at her Master of Music degree recital in May of 2006. The work, in four movements, depicts a young girl’s seduction by and resignation to dark forces. In the first movement, Proud Merry, the flutist presents with an arrogant innocence a quite dramatic presentation of a highly dramatically-charged musical fluff--she is quite impressed with herself. The second movement, Sedctus Spiritus, evokes the sensual siren-like calls of an imaginary spirit, beckoning the young girl away from her arrogant innocence. In the third movement, Demon Stomp, spritely demons attempt to drag the girl down to hell with them. In the fourth movement, Jade, the girl has succumbed to the darker forces and is now a mixture of her old self (represented by Mvmt. I) and the new-found evil residing in her soul (respresented by Mvmt. II).
